A collection of writings from someone obsessed with the written word.

Don’t we all.

Anonymous asked: Hello, Josh. I hope you are doing alright. I just had a quick question, if you don't mind my asking: how did you get your poetry out there? I've tried on a few different occassions to publish here on Tumblr and never got any favorites. It's kinda discouraging if you don't even get one after leaving it up for a few days. I don't know if I am just using the wrong tags but it would be helpful for any advice.

Though there are certainly things you can do, like adding tags, my biggest advice is to focus on the writing itself, rather than the interactions it’s getting online. Of course it can be disheartening to think no-one is reading your work but what’s truly important is that, when someone does stumble upon that work (which they will), everything they read has been written for you and only you. It’s that honesty your readers will truly resonate with.

The main reason I don’t force myself to write or upload a poem every day on here is because it would be unnatural for me to do that. I want to be able to say that every poem I write has been written because I wanted to write it, not forced because the one before didn’t get enough interactions or love online.

I know that doesn’t really answer your question but I hope it helped, even if just a little! Keep at it and please don’t be disheartened. You’ll be thankful in the long-run.
